These photos are from about 1941. My Grandfather William E. Gray was meeting a family member (Claud Waff) at the Norfolk VA Airport. They are seen together in the first photo.

Pennsylvania Central Airline took delivery of this aircraft in late 1939. Called Capitaliners, because of the Airlines’ base in Washington, DC’s new Washington National Airport, NC 21784 was dubbed Rocky Mount. After a series of sales over the years, this DC-3 ended service with a crash in the Dominican Republic in 1973. Pennsylvania Central eventually became Capital Airlines and was absorbed into United Airlines in 1961.
